The Testimonial Dinner June 1, 1988
A Testimonial Dinner was held in Dr. Shamy’s honor by the Lebanese-Syrian community to acknowledge his service to the community, his patients, and the dental and orthodontic community at large. The appointment committee included prominent Justice Albert H. Malouf, who was appointed judge of the Court of Sessions of the Peace in 1968 and to the Superior Court of Quebec in 1972. He is highly regarded for his landmark ruling in favor of the Cree and Inuit who demanded that construction work on the James Bay project be stopped. Other Honors
In 1981, the Medical College of Virginia invited Dr. Shamy to deliver the E.F. Muir and N.F. Muir Memorial Lecture in Richmond, Virginia.
In 1986 the Canadian Dental Association selected Dr. Shamy to deliver the prestigious Grieve Memorial Lecture at their annual meeting in Halifax.
In 1987, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists honored Dr. Shamy at their annual meeting by presenting him with the first Distinguished Service Award in recognition and appreciation of outstanding contributions and exemplary service rendered for the benefit and advancement of the orthodontic profession.
For being the General Sessions Chairman of the American Association of Orthodontists Annual Meeting held in Montréal. The City of Montréal honored Dr. Shamy by ceremoniously proclaiming him an Ambassador by Appointment of the Ambassadors Club of the Palais des Congrés de Montréal. At the gala he was presented with the Alcan AGORA trophy. An engraved tile was laid on the main concourse of the Palais des Congrés to acknowledge Dr. Shamy’s contribution to the city.
